Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!
Psalm 150:6 ESV
I love passages of Scripture that speak of praise as Isaiah 55:12 does “For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” Or Luke 19:40 where Jesus said, “I tell you, if these (my disciples) were silent, the very stones would cry out.”
Timothy Keller commented on Psalm 150: “AN ETERNITY OF PRAISE. The Psalms are, in the end, a miniature of life. Every possible experience, if prayed to the God who is really there, is destined to end in praise. Confession leads to the joy of forgiveness. Laments lead to a deeper resting in him for our happiness. If we could praise God perfectly, we would love him completely and then our joy would be full. The new heavens and new earth are perfect because everyone and everything is glorifying God fully and therefore enjoying him forever. So Psalm 150 gives us a glimpse of that unimaginable future. So praise him everywhere (verse1) for everything (verse 2) in every way (verse 3-5). ‘Let everything that has breath praise the Lord’ (verse 6).
Prayer: Lord, you have given so much to me. Give me one thing more – a heart for praising you. … Amen.
